Welcome to Kussmaul Gallery! This unique store occupies a 2 story brick building in Downtown Granville, Ohio. Built in 1828, as a meat and wool warehouse for the Ohio & Erie canal, the building became well known as the Granville Times Printing Company. Today, you can see the original wood floors, exposed brick walls and massive hand-hewn hardwood beams. Our history is important to us, and we cherish all of the imperfections in this creaky old building.

Our Story

Kussmaul Gallery was founded by James Young in 1987, upstairs in the Granville Times building. What began as a small consignment gallery and frame shop, soon became a venue for unique and one-of-a-kind gifts and objects of art. In 1995, the ground floor space became available for rent when the Granville Times Book Cellar closed its doors. Deciding the time was right for expansion, James and his future wife Jenifer opened the newly expanded version of Kussmaul Gallery. Today, the gallery continues to be one of Ohio's best known shops for hand crafted jewelry, home decor, unique gifts and hand-blown glass. Jenifer manages the day to day operations and sources all of the vendors and artists. The upstairs former gallery space is now home to James Young Fine Art Painting Studio. In the spring of 2018, the adjoining room, and part of the original 1828 building was acquired and became the new location of James Young Fine Art. James also continues to offer custom picture framing services by appointment.
